Weather is always a hot topic here in Cleveland. Those of us who are transplants sometimes roll our eyes at how obsessive the natives can seem at times. But everyone has to admit they find themselves getting caught up in the meteorological drama, no matter how mild and consistent weather they grew up in. And with good reason.
Take last Saturday, for example. After a week of warmer days, Andrew came down with baseball fever and wanted me to call a couple friends to set up a baseball game behind the church. Sounds like a great idea. All week Andrew was discussing how the game might be played, how the rules might be modified, who would be on what team, and (of course) what he would be wearing. All plans seemed to be a go, until we saw the forecast. Cold and wet, with a chance of snow! I warned Andrew that the game may have to be moved indoors, and he was a little concerned. But you know, I've said it before....we Clevelanders have to be tough and we have to be able to change with the weather. And Andrew and his buddies are learning that lesson early!
But true sports fans don't care how they get their fix. It just matters that it happens. There was some serious baseball being played in this gym.
And now, almost a week of sunny, sunny, sunny days later--it is hard to remember back to that gray day. How quickly we forget that the very next day we looked out the windows of the church building and saw snow falling. Hard. All the kids care about is running around in shorts. Jumping on the trampoline. Wearing crocs and flip flops. Walking to the Chatty's for pizza and movie night. Soaking up as much sun as we possibly can. Because here in this part of the country, you never know what the forecast has in store.
